The 3 Reasons Your Skin Needs Antioxidants

June 10th, 2014 | By: Timeless Skin Solutions

As an Aesthetician, I love to educate my patients on the importance of protective skin care from the top three damaging agents: sunlight, cigarette smoke, and pollution.  These damaging factors cause free radicals to form in your skin and the process of oxidation occurs. But what exactly is a free radical? A free radical is when damaging toxins kill off an important component of your skin cell by eliminating a special piece of your skin cell's puzzle.  It is a molecule left with one unpaired electron, disabling the cell's ability to repair itself.  As a result of these damaged skin cells, you will start to notice fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and uneven skin tone and texture.  So is there a way to prevent free radicals from forming? Yes.  The use of antioxidants will prevent oxidation (damage) to your skin cells.  Free radicals can be hindered by the use of effective, medical-grade skin care, and that's why antioxidants are important in your regimen.  Vitamin C and Vitamin E are proven antioxidants which replace the damaged component to a skin cell and prevent a free radical from even forming. There are 3 reasons your skin needs SkinMedica Vitamin C & E Complex: 1.  It uses high concentrations of both C & E antioxidants (15%).  They work synergistically to prevent free radical formation in your skin. 2.  In clinical studies, Vitamin C & E antioxidants have shown improvement in the production of your own collagen when used for 60 days. 3. With its silicon suspension system, your skin is able to prevent oxidation and absorb the Vitamin C & Vitamin E throughout the day.

Use topical antioxidants for your skin to prevent oxidation, and you will prevent fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage. P.S. This product is wonderful for all skin types, can be applied with other serums for an antioxidant boost, and performs like a makeup primer.  Find it here
