What is it?

miraDry® is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment designed to permanently reduce excessive underarm sweating, odor and hair. This innovative procedure utilizes precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to target and eliminate sweat glands in the armpit area through a process called thermolysis. By delivering thermal energy to the sweat glands, miraDry effectively dissolves them, providing a long-lasting solution for those struggling with hyperhidrosis or excessive perspiration. As the only FDA-cleared treatment of its kind, miraDry offers a safe and effective way to address underarm sweat and odor concerns, often achieving significant results in as little as one or two treatments.

What to expect

When receiving miraDry treatment, patients can expect a relatively quick and minimally invasive procedure. Prior to the treatment, it's recommended to avoid antiperspirants, deodorants and shaving for about a week. On the day of the procedure, your medical provider will first apply a local anesthetic to ensure comfort. The miraDry device is passed over the armpit, delivering radiofrequency pulses to target the sweat glands. The entire process typically takes about an hour.

Post-treatment, patients may experience temporary discomfort, swelling or bruising, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and cold compresses. While there's no significant downtime, it's advisable to avoid strenuous activities for about a week. Most individuals can resume normal activities immediately, though they should follow their provider's aftercare instructions, which may include keeping the area clean and avoiding deodorants for a few days.
