Exosomes, Explained

August 28th, 2024 | By: Timeless Skin Solutions

The only thing that is constant in aesthetic medicine is change! That’s why we are so focused on continuous education and staying up-to-date on the newest advancements in the industry.

One of the exciting breakthroughs in recent years has been the emergence of exosomes for skin rejuvenation. Packed with regenerative and anti-aging properties, exosomes are a powerful add-on option for various aesthetic procedures.

What is an exosome?

Think of exosomes as tiny delivery trucks sent out by stem cells to give instructions to other cells nearby. They carry important cargo like RNA, proteins, and growth factors that cells require to grow and repair themselves. These little messengers are key for keeping cells, especially those in the skin, healthy and working well.

How are exosomes used in skincare?

Exosomes are a skincare game-changer, particularly after procedures like microneedling, Secret RF, IPL, Resurfx, and chemical peels. After these treatments, your skin can feel a bit tender and inflamed. Exosomes actively aid in the skin’s recovery and regeneration process, delivering anti-inflammatory properties that calm down the irritation and help your skin bounce back quicker.

Packed with growth factors, vitamins, coenzymes, and amino acids, they also work to kickstart your skin’s collagen and elastin production, resulting in improved skin texture, diminished fine lines and wrinkles, and an overall more youthful and radiant complexion.

How are they applied?

After mixing the dilutant and the exosomes, your provider will apply the exosomes topically. You’ll apply the remaining product within 2-3 hours, and it’s recommended to wait 12 hours before washing the area after the second treatment.

Why Benev Exosomes?

Choosing to use Benev exosomes means you’re investing in potent, science-backed therapy that your skin will love you for. Extracted meticulously in a controlled environment, they’re backed by 24 clinical papers supporting their role in boosting collagen and elastin growth. Each vial also contains a substantial 2.5 billion exosomes.

Benev also holds the exclusive privilege of using the term “Exosome” for their product, granted through approvals from both the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) and the FDA. This distinction highlights the company’s dedication to ensuring safety and efficacy in every batch manufactured. Their production process strictly adheres to the rigorous guidelines set by the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA).

What is the difference between exosomes and PRP?

Exosomes and PRP (protein-rich plasma) are both treatments used in regenerative medicine, but they work a bit differently.

PRP starts with taking some of the patient’s blood and then spinning it down to get a concentrated solution rich in platelets, A.K.A. cell fragments full of growth factors. This solution is then injected back into the body where it’s needed. While PRP is effective and taps into the body’s natural healing abilities, its results can vary depending on factors like the patient’s age and overall health.

Exosomes, on the other hand, contain an even wider variety and more abundant volume of growth factors, proteins, lipids, and peptides. This gives them a special advantage over PRP because they provide very specific signals to cells, resulting in powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects.

To make it simpler, imagine your body is like a busy construction site. The workers there, called cells, are responsible for building and fixing different parts of your body, like your skin and muscles.

PRP is like giving these workers a toolbox filled with useful tools (the growth factors in the blood). It helps them do their job better, but sometimes they might not know exactly which tool to use or where to use it.

Exosomes, however, are like giving the workers not just tools, but also clear instructions on how to use them. These instructions are neatly packaged up in little delivery packages. When we give these to the workers, they know exactly what to do and where to do it, making their repairs even more effective.

As our understanding of exosomes deepens and technology continues to improve, they’re poised to play a significant role in enhancing aesthetic treatments and outcomes.

At Timeless, we pride ourselves on staying ahead of advancements and are excited to be offering exosomes as an add-on treatment at both our Dublin and New Albany offices. Contact us to learn how you can incorporate exosomes into your SkinScript today.
