In a conversation with Dr Carol Clinton at the end of 2019, she shared the
emerging trends that she saw coming in 2020 and her belief that what is old is being made new again. At that time, she noted that “Advances in technology, along with an increased understanding of the body have added to what we already know to be effective in aesthetic medicine, and lets us do so much more.”
One of those emerging trends that Dr. Clinton pointed to is the use of facial fillers. While facial fillers have been used for decades, anatomists study of the structure of the face and body allows a better understanding of the muscle layers and fat pads and how the skin lies on top of them. As a result of the on-going, extensive training that we undertake at
Timeless Skin Solutions, we know that where and how we put
facial filler has changed over time.
New Understanding
At Timeless, we embrace the “science of beauty”, combining our knowledge of - and passion for - medicine, science, and technology to provide outstanding results to our patients. One of the tools we use to do this are the MD Codes™ created by Dr. Mauricia de Maio.
Dr. Erin Olah
The MD Codes™ are based on Dr. de Maio initial work - the 8-point lift - developed in 2010. This was the first time that filler treatments were developed to strategically combine different injection sites to achieve direct and indirect effects by giving volume and structure to the face. In 2015, Dr. de Maio further developed this concept with the creation of the MD Codes™.
A series of precise sites that were created to guide injections on the face, the MD Codes™ “combine science and artistry to achieve optimal results,” notes Timeless Medical Director, Dr. Erin Olah. She goes on to explain, “they define the structural injection sites to optimize facial outcomes with fillers.”
Ultimately, there are three factors that effect the results or outcomes when injecting:
- The patient
- The product used
- The technique or injector
Every patient is unique, so the results are depending upon the expertise of the injector - to both select the right product and inject with the best technique. According to Dr. Olah, “Assessment is key prior to injecting. Not only when the face is at rest but also when the face is in motion.”
New Technologies + Products
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC by Allergan
One of the more exciting improvements in facial fillers is the recent FDA approval of use of JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC for the augmentation of the chin. Already FDA-approved for use in the cheek area to restore volume, VOLUMA™ is now recognized as being uniquely suitable to address the chin and its essential role in facial balance.
When this natural substance is skillfully injected, it can shave years off your appearance. The medical staff at Timeless are trained in the art and science of skin, injecting more than 99% of all other medical offices in the country. You’ll know, but your friends won’t.
The RHA® Collection by Revance
Another new product that is changing how we address aging skin is the RHA® Collection by Revance. RHA® is the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler for dynamic facial wrinkles and folds, which appear in areas of the face that move repetitively.
Designed to be resilient enough to adapt to your facial movement, RHA® offers three variations - RHA2, RHA3, and RHA4 - that provide more stretch to less, depending on the patients’ needs. This Resilient Hyaluronic Acid can be used to address liplines and the dynamic wrinkles around the mouth, to deeper in the nasal labial folds to provide contour and structure.
Because faces are dynamic, fillers should be too. Dr. Clinton proudly shares, “Timeless was selected as an exclusive provider of the Revance collection of fillers because of our expertise in injecting.”
Restylane Kysse
Continuing the trend towards technologies and products that provide a more natural looking you, is Restylane Kysse. Lips lose volume, color, and elasticity with age. Kysse is the first lip filler designed with XpresHAn Technology™ that allows for flexible movement and natural-looking volume for up to year, and enhances lip color.
Launched in May 2020, Kysse integrates in and provides natural movement, becoming one as you smile, laugh and frown. A more robust lip filler, Kysse is very soft and a little goes a long way to creating a fuller and more defined lip. In clinical trials, a majority of patients had thin or very thin lips and 98% were satisfied with the kiss-ability of their lips.
