Skin Rejuvenation with Micro-Needling

June 5th, 2019 | By: Timeless Skin Solutions
Micro-needling is a safe, effective, and clinically proven dermatologic procedure that helps to increase skin’s natural collagen production, thereby promoting rejuvenation of the skin. An essential protein produced naturally in the body, collagen helps to keep skin looking youthful, with a firm, smooth and stretchy texture. While aging causes the natural decline of collagen, skin can also lose collagen due to injuries like acne scarring, stretch marks, and other conditions and injuries.
How Does It Work?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, micro-needling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses small, sterile needles to create small puncture wounds to promote skin rejuvenation. The wounds created by microneedling prompts the deeper layer of skin called the dermis to rebuild itself without damaging the overlying epidermis. The treatment not only rebuilds the skin from the outside in, but also allows medications, nutrients, and skin care products to be absorbed deeper into the skin, which can further boost the treatment of a variety of issues.
What Is It Used For?
Micro-needling often is a popular treatment choice for patients who desire clinical results, with little to no recovery, and is a valuable alternative to more invasive procedures such as laser skin resurfacing and deep chemical peeling. Micro-needling is an effective treatment for a variety of concerns, including large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots, acne, scars, rhytides, skin pigmentation issues, and rosacea. The treatment has limited side effects and minimal recovery time.
Adding the Power of Radio Frequency
As micro-needling as grown in popularity for the treatment of a variety of issues, combining it with other services has even further expanded the potential applications of the treatment.  Specifically, radio frequency technology has been combined with micro-needling to enhance the results that could be achieved with either alone. On its own, radio frequency technology was developed for skin rejuvenation and has been used for years to improve skin laxity, rhytids and acne scarring. The RF energy is turned into thermal energy that causes collagen contraction and stimulates new collagen production. When RF is combined with microneedling, called Secret RF at Timeless Skin Solutions, it stimulates a natural healing response that leads to the replacement of damaged connective tissue with new, healthier skin. The procedure can offer similar results to ablative laser procedures, but with significantly less discomfort, downtime, and risk for hyper-pigmentation, especially is darker skin types.
Combining Therapies
Depending on the desired outcomes, Secret RF or microneedling can also be combined with additional treatments for greater results. To help with wrinkles, patients often pair Secret RF with Botox®, or with fillers like Juvederm® if looking for more skin volume. When used with Ultherapy®, Secret RF can tighten the dermis of the skin after the Ultherapy has tightened and lifted the deep tissue areas. Similarly, IPL treatments combined with Secret RF can help alleviate brown spots more effectively.
What to Expect Before & After Treatment
Prior to receiving treatment, patients can continue the use of any home skin care regimen, up until the time of the microneedling procedure.  Following treatment, patients are given a hyaluronic acid gel to apply to the area. Following microneedling patients use a non-allergenic moisturizing cream, and to stay out of the sun or to use a non-chemical sunblock of 30+ SPF for at least a week.  Patients can resume use of makeup and active skin care products after about 2 days. Microneedling is most effective when done in a series of 3-5 treatments in intervals of 2-4 weeks.  Some patients elect to receive on-going treatment sessions on an annual or semi-annual basis. Because microneedling causes the skin to rebuild itself, this treatment is not a quick fix and it may take up to several months for patients to see the full results of the procedure. At Timeless Skin Solutions, we use our expertise to take a global look at the condition of the skin, help patients identify which issues they would like addressed, which treatment can work most effectively together to do so, and with the use of which products to maintain the results after treatment. We pride ourselves on having a 98% patient satisfaction rate, and look forward to joining you on your skin care journey.  Request a consultation to see how we can improve your skin and your confidence!
