Answers to Commonly Asked Questions About Lasers
If aging, acne, or too much time in the sun has left your face with blotches, scars, wrinkles, or lines, laser
skin treatments may help your
skin look younger and healthier. Lasers “improve the overall health as well the tone and texture of the skin at the same time,” notes Timeless Skin Solutions’ Medical Director,
Dr. Erin Olah.
At
Timeless Skin Solutions, we offer a variety of laser skin treatments, from
IPL and
Genesis to
Pearl Laser Resurfacing, and more depending on your personal skincare needs and goals.
What is laser resurfacing?
Laser resurfacing, also known as Pearl Laser Resurfacing is a treatment to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne scars, and more. The technique directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin, precisely removing skin layer by layer. The new skin cells that form during healing give the skin a tighter, younger-looking surface. Essentially, lasers harness the power of light and heat to improve skin tone, texture, and coloration. (Science is SO cool!)
Is laser skin resurfacing an invasive procedure?
At Timeless, we use non-ablative lasers, which are less invasive and require less recovery time than does ablative laser resurfacing. Patients can expect approximately 1 week of social downtime with Pearl Laser Resurfacing and will benefit from collagen growth and improved skin tone and texture over time in as little as a single treatment.
How are IPL and Genesis different from the Pearl?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments, also known as Photofacial and BroadBand Light (BBL), use a specific wavelength of light to gently and precisely treat deep under the skin’s surface. Unlike the Pearl, IPL & Genesis have little to no downtime but require a series of treatments to see optimal results.
How do laser skin treatments help the skin?
Using light and heat energy, lasers cause controlled damage to the surface of the skin causing the body to react to heal the tissue by creating new skin. The result? Increased production of collagen. And don’t forget, Dr. Olah advises, “lasers are a great compliment to other treatments like Botox and filler.”
What are the primary skin concerns that laser treatments can address?
“Lasers give you such a great change in the skin,” says Dr. Olah. While laser treatments can't eliminate excessive or sagging skin, depending on the specific laser treatment selected, they can stimulate collagen production and decrease the appearance of:
- Brown spots, also known as age spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles in the face
- Uneven skin tone
- Redness from Rosacea
- Facial vessels as well as spider veins
- Acne scarring
- Improve the overall complexion from signs of scars or sun damage
How long do the results of laser treatment last and how often do I have to get treatment?
A perk of laser treatments is that results continue to accumulate after each treatment. The accelerated collagen production peaks at about 12 weeks after your last treatment. Because the natural aging process continues, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly how long results will last, but benefits can be seen for several years. Sun protection and attention to skincare are necessary to maintain optimal results.
Which laser treatment we recommend and how often we recommend treatment depends on each individuals’ skincare needs and goals. Schedule a consultation today to learn how laser resurfacing can help you address sun-damaged skin and return it to radiant, Timeless skin.
